Fear, Humility, Courage, Reverence

10 Feb 2019 homily
fear - humility - courage - reverence
Today’s homily reverberated with some EO. The Monsignor discussed how the figures in the readings - Isaiah; St Paul; St Peter - all responded to a challenge.
At first fear. Situation looks impossible, is terrifying.
Then humility - I am who I am. Not the greatest, strongest, best at anything. Human.
Then courage: “ok, I’ll do it - even at great risk, I will work hard, prepare and when the time comes, I will not quit”.
Followed by reverence: So many images of those who live lives of service show them bowed down or on a knee (and I don’t mean overpaid football players). Again, humility, but more then that. The awareness that even though we are weak we can work and with help do good things…
And always Gratitude: “Thank you for all my gifts and talents. Thank you for the opportunity to live a meaningful life.”
Remarkable line from today’s reading:
“Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.” Isaiah 6:6
